|dating is so awkward|
My first date...
It was the standard, "Dinner and a Movie" date... although the movie came first and then we had dinner. The movie was my pick and clearly nothing he would have seen on his own but he enjoyed it because he was with me.
Now, here's where it gets interesting because I had the flu. I know, why'd I go if I had the flu? All I can say is I had been looking forward to this date for awhile and I wasn't going to let something like the flu ruin it. I survived the movie, but by the time we got to dinner I was a wee bit worse for wear. I was doing my best to keep it together. He took us to Red Lobster and I can't be 100% what I ordered but I do know I maybe had two bites of it. They had some special fruity drink that came in a cool glass that you could keep so we both had those as well. It's silly, but I felt special... and horrible at the same time (literally and figuratively).
I am sure we weren't there for too terribly long, especially since I wasn't really eating. He was sweet and understanding about me toughing it through but knew it was time to get me home.
And here's where is gets real good.
With our to-go boxes in tow, we headed out of the restaurant. Then, as we hit the entry way, right before leaving... I barfed... everywhere... like a lot. nice.
and here's the kicker... as I am mortified and exhausted, the workers bring out the mop to start cleaning and they clearly had no idea what they were doing so... he offers to mop it up.
yeah, my date mopped up my vomit at the end of our night. And he was a prince about it.
Technically, I should have stayed home that night, but I'll never forget that date or that man. I'll compare all others to him. He set the bar pretty high... but he did that my whole life because he's my dad.
This past week my parents were cleaning out the cupboards and getting rid of stuff. My dad sent me a picture of our glasses from my "first date" and asked if I wanted them... uh... duh!!! Most valuable drinking glasses in the whole world!
I was 8 when my dad took me on our "Father-Daughter Date." The movie was The Amazing Panda Adventure and we had dinner and a "show" at the Red Lobster on Barry Road. I'm so blessed to have such a great dad who invested so much into my life. Now, he and I have weekly dates at the gym working on our fitness (I'll post more about that later).
